In December of 1960, South Caroina had 3,000 ladies bowling in the state and had received permission from WIBC to form a state association. Janice Johnson was counted in this number.
Janice was in attendance at the organizational meeting of the state association in Aiken, South Carolina on February 18, 1961. She missed attending the Annual Meeting and Tournament in Columbia in May, 1961 and has been in attendance at each and every one since that time.
Janice was elected to the State Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting in Spartanburg in 1965 and has served the South Carolina Women’s Bowling Association steadily.
Janice has bowled in all of the Greenville WBA tournaments and placed second in the Doubles Handicap once. she has many league championships to her credit, with a “little” help from her friends. She was on the winning team once in a Southeastern Tournament, with Barb Payment as her team captain. She has also bowled in 5 WIBC Tournaments.
Janice served as BVL Chairman for the Greenville WBA several times and was instrumental in the GWBA raising $2500 for the BVL. She is Greenville’s first and only Member Emeritus and was elected into their Hall of Fame in 1990 for Meritorious Service.
With the work load Janice has carried and the service she has devoted to her office and committees, she found time to roll a 256 game and a series of 644. Her high average is 171.
Janice has chaired most every committee for Greenville and the SCWBA, also taking time to serve on the Board of Directors of the Greenville YABA. She was a member of the ScholarshipCommittee in its inaugural year.
Janice began her career with the South Carolina Women’s Bowling Association as a Director and moved gradually through the ranks to become the First Vice President. Realizing she had no desire to serve as President, she was elected to the office of Sergeant-At-Arms. She has held that position since 1984 and has served the SCWBA well.
Janice resides in Piedmont, South Carolina with her husband of 40 years, Billy Jo Johnson. Janice and Billy have on son, Steve, and two grandsons, B. J. and Clint.
Janice is very deserving of her place in the SCWBA Hall of Fame. She has served as the role model for a lot of young members beginning their service to bowling. We hope Janice has many more years of devoted service and loyalty to give us as she has in the past.
JANICE, WELCOME TO THE SCWBA HALL OF FAME!
