Jean Glimpse

Leaving North Carolina, Jean left a large family consisting of Mother and seven brothers and their families.  She has a daughter Kim, Son-in-Law Buddy, Granddaughters Christy and Kelli, son Tim and Grandson Ryan.  Her Grand Children play a big part in her happiness.

Jean began bowling in sanctioned play in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1963.  She moved to Myrtle Beach in 1964, but did not resume sanctioned bowling until 1966.

Jean spent 25 years working for the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, two of these in the base bowling center.  This introduction to bowling caused her to learn much about the sport ranging from the customer to the pin setters.  She is now employed at the Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union.

Many of her hours have been spent volunteering for the youth in the Grand Strand area.  She became a certified coach in 1970 and attended the lane inspectors workshop in 1983 and was the first woman to become a certified inspector in the Grand Strand area.

Jean has served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Director of her local association.  She has been the chairperson and/or served on all the committees.  She was the director of the local association championship tournament during her seven years as secretary.

In 1984 Jean became a director of the S.C.W.B.A. Board.  She was instrumental in compiling and submitting the information that earned the spotlight award for the state association.  She has served on many committees as member and chairperson and was appointed awards coordinator four year ago to assist the Secretary in the awards program.

Jean was named the area recruitment coordinator for the state of South Carolina in 1989.  She traveled hundreds of miles and wrote countless letters keeping the state associations informed on the needs and status of that program, until its end in 1993.  Jean also served on the WIBC Tellers committee four years.

For 29 years, jean has been a dedicated servant to the Grand Strand WBA.  She has participated in 27 local championship tournaments and 25 state championship tournaments.  She has now added two state senior tournaments and eight WIBC Championship Tournaments to her list.

Jean has served as a delegate to the National Convention nine times, the SCWBA Convention 17 times and attended the State Leaders Workshop in Wisconsin.

Lifetime membership in the Grand Strand WBA has been granted her, along with an induction into her local Hall of Fame in 1994 for Meritorious Service.

Jean’s career in bowling thus far has held a high game of 264, three game series of 643 and average of 172.

Leadership….Dedication….Commitment….All of these describe the character of this inductee.  Jean is a most welcome member to the S.C.W.B.A. Hall of Fame!
