Mike Albert inducted by Larry Goosney
Mike has been bowling most of his life in one capacity or another. You may know him as your teammate, your pro shop owner, your teacher, or your competition. He began going to the bowling alley as a child at the age of 6 to watch his parents and grandparents bowl. By the age of 12, he picked up his own bowling ball and began honing his skills as a bowler. He was bowling twice a week and on weekends until he began league bowling in the youth league in middle school. He would ride his bike to the bowling alley with his ball resting on the handlebars just to get in some extra practice sessions and have some fun after school. As he started playing more, he began bowling in the JSBA (Junior Scratch Bowling Association) where he gained experience and learned more about bowling and competing. In 2004, he bowled his first honor score of 299. He also placed first in the North Carolina State doubles event. In 2005, Mike moved to the Grand Strand area from Greenville, NC. He bowled his first 300 game in 2006 at Little River Lanes, where 3 years later he would go on to open his pro shop, Spares and Strikes. He continues to own and operate this pro shop. He bowled his highest 3 game series of 868 (300, 268, 300) in 2008 which was the highest series bowled that season in South Carolina. Mike has participated in18 USBC Open Championship Tournaments.
Mike currently resides in Wilmington, NC with his wife, Jen and their 2 year old son, Mathew. In his free time, Mike enjoys participating in a handful of bowling tournaments each year. He frequents the beach with his family, attends music events, and is an avid sports fan. The addition of Mike to the South Carolina Hall of Fame is very well deserved.
