Ruby Gantenbein

Ruby Gantenbein a caring, giving woman was selected to the SCSYABA Hall of Fame in 1996 after serving as YABA Director for over 20 years and a YABA Board Member for 22 years, along with serving on many different committees.  She has received Coach of the Year Award for 10 years and she has spent every Saturday morning coaching her Youth Bowlers including her children and grandchildren until she had a stroke, from which she has recovered and returned to the lanes.  She has spent most of her life as a volunteer not only in our bowling community.  She is a member of the Woodman of the World, Corinth Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Cherokee County Crisis Help-line, American Red Cross, Abused Children Home, and Safe Home Task Force.  She received Citizen of the Year Award in 1994.

Gaffney, SC – – Ruby Lee Edmonds Gantenbein, 78, of 569 Burnt Gin Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Peachtree Centre. Born in Greenwood, SC, she was the wife of Robert “Bob” Dean Gantenbein, Sr. and daughter of the late Charles Edmonds and Omar Sheehan Edmonds. Mrs. Gantenbein was a lifetime volunteer with the Crisis Center of Cherokee County and also volunteered in other organizations. She was a member of the S. C. Bowling Hall of Fame and received the REA Lifetime Achievement Award. Mrs. Gantenbein was a member of Green Creek Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband is a son, Bobby Gantenbein, Jr. and wife, Kim of Gaffney; three daughters, Diane Norton and husband, Randy of Downey, CA, Charlene Humphries and husband, Robert of Gaffney and Sandy Wallace and husband, Greg, of Gaffney; a brother, James Edmonds and wife, Dale Ann of Rutherfordton, NC; a sister, Kathy Ellis of Chesnee; sons-in-law, Danny Bell of Bullard, TX and Jon Jensen of Spartanburg; twelve grandchildren, Julie Norton, Jeff Norton, Amie Sullivan and husband, Kevin, Rhett Allison, Kit Hattaway, Candice Maggio, Jessie Bell, April Dickard and husband, Matt, Robbie Humphries, Cassie Wallace, Cameron Wallace and Robert Dean Gantenbein, III; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Terri Jensen and Gigi Bell and a sister, Margie Lee. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 PM on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sidney Norton officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Gaffney Bowling Association Scholarship, 153 Sandy Lane, Gaffney, SC 29340. The family will be at the home of Sandy and Greg Wallace, 153 Sandy Lane, Gaffney.
