CLARA “MOE” GAMBLE joined her first Women’s League in 1957 and has been active in bowling ever since. Her first year, she won a small trophy for her high game of 180.
Moe has been a member of the Charleston WBA for thirty-five (35) years and has served as a Director on the Charleston WBA Board for sixteen (16) years and has just been re-elected to serve two (2) more years. She served her local organization as Second Vice President for two (2) years. She was a State Delegate for four (4) years and a Delegate to WIBC for sixteen (16) years in addition to serving on many and various local committees. Moe has participated in twenty-six (26) WIBC National Tournaments. She has also participated in most all City and State Tournaments, and is a charter member of the Southeastern Bowling Organization and the Board of Directors.
Moe is a certified Junior Bowling Coach and is a former member of the Junior Board.
Moe has bowled in all of the SCWBA Senior Tournaments and won first place in Doubles in 1987. In 1990 she was the All Events Handicap Champion in Class A. In 1991 she represented South Carolina in the National Senior Tournament and won first place in the Class A Division, breaking four (4) records while doing so. She out bowled all senior women and men.
She was a member of the first place scratch team in the State Tournament in 1971-72. She tied for the annual high series award for the State in 1969-70 season with a 669. She has been a member of first place teams in her league, City, State and Southeastern tournaments.
Moe is a member of the 600 Club. She is a former member of the LPBA (five years) and placed in the Pro-Am in Portsmouth, Virginia. She has received numerous awards for her bowling achievements and has participated in the WIBC Queen’s tournament (1972 and 1973). She has also received the Presidential Sports Award.
Moe has had a high career game of 257; 3 game series of 669 and her highest career average has been 182.
Moe has been a long time devotee of the sport of bowling. She believes in fair play and is very dedicated to the game and to her association. She is always happy to renew friendships and promote the game of bowling. She is committed to enjoy the sport and to stay active as long as health permits.
Moe is a permanent member of WIBC and was inducted into the Charleston WBA Hall of Fame in April of this year.
She has been married for fifty-three years and is the mother of five (5) children.
MOE GAMBLE’S contributions to and achievements in the sport of bowling are far more numerous than we have mentioned. She is one of South Carolina’s great “ladies” in bowling and rightfully belongs beside South Carolina’s other “greats” in the SCWBA HALL OF FAME.
