Dave Bowers

Dave became a member of the GCBA (Greater Columbia Bowling Association) as a Director in 1976.  He remained in that capacity until 1979, at which time he was elected fourth Vice-President.  In 1980 he was elected to first Vice-President and represented the GCBA at the ABC convention in Louisville, Kentucky.  Dave was instrumental in the organization of the awards program for the GCBA.  He believed in and continues to believe that a person should be recognized for their accomplishments.  There were never delays in his part on awards to an individual.

Dave has always involved himself with young people.  He was active in the GCJBA (Greater Columbia Junior Bowling Association) now know as YABA (Young American Bowling Alliance) for more than fifteen years.  He has served in capacities of Director 1973-74; Secretary/Treasurer 1974-82; and from 1982 till present he has served as Director or Line Officer.  For the last three years he has chaired the scholarship committee.

From 1979 till the present, Dave has been an Instate Instructor for YABA.  This means that he is qualified to train and certify YABA coach instructors.  In 1987 he attended a school in Charlotte, NC, and at that time he was the only person in South Carolina certified as an Instate Instructor.  Since 1978 Dave has held over twenty schools with over 700 coaches/student coaches attending.

From August 1980-82 Dave served at the National Level as a member of the YABA Rules, Regulations-Awards, and Funding Committee.  This committee was a sub-committee of the Unification Committee which was organized to unite the American Junior Bowling Congress and the Bowling Proprietor’s Youth Bowling Association into one organization which we know today as the Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA).  During this time Dave’s committee held four meetings at ABC Headquarters in Greendale, Wisconsin.
