Dice McCullough Hodge

The following was submitted with her nomination:  Dice bowled in all but three of the SCWBA State Tournaments between 1972 and 1988.  She entered the SC Ladies Classic while in existence.  She entered local tournaments in Columbia 1973-1987 and missed one in 1988 since it conflicted with the BPAC qualifying for US Open.  Local titles:  1978 Team champion,  and 1986 and 1987 Scratch All Events Champion.  Local records:  City High Series 700 and City High Average 195.  HonorsHigh Series 1980-81, 85-86, 86-87 and 87-88; Yearly High Average 1985-86, 86-87 and 87-88.  All Star Team 1980-81, 82-83, 83-84, 85-86, 86-87, and 87-88.  WIBC championship tournaments bowled:  WIBC Championship Tournament 1983-1988, Also Queens Tournament 1983-88; finished 2nd in 1988 National 600 Tournament in Reno: 704 for $400.

 

Champion SC State 600 Club Tourney 1980, won ABA Tournament in April 1982, won the Liberty Lanes Challenge Series Tournament in October 1988 (Gastonia, NC against 40 men), won (1st Tournament ever) the Atlantic Coastal Ladies Classic at Fairfield Lanes, Rock Hill, SC in October 1988.  Won BPAC qualifying tournament for US Open in 1988 finished 3rd in 1987.

 

Bowled in 5 LPBT Tournaments in the past year including the US Open in Winston-Salem, qualified 3rd in LPBT in 1st Round, South Bend, Indiana.  First to average 200+ for the SC State 600 Tournament, first to have 700 in Travel League.  First lady to bowl at the University of South Carolina, competed on men’s team in 1970-1971 because there was no woman’s team, therefore it was known that ladies were interested in bowling and women’s competition was started in 1971-72.  Our USC collegiate team won the SIBC (Southern Intercollegiate Bowling Conference) in 1971, so I have a trophy with a man’s figurine!  In 1971-1972, 1972-1973, 1973-1974: Dice won SIBC High Average and High Series, All Events champion in 1973-1974.  ACUI (Association of College unions Intercollegiate Tournaments):  Doubles Champion 1972-1973; Mixed Doubles Champion 1973; All Events Champion 1974, Doubles Champion 1974.  Greater Columbia Junior Bowling Association (GCJBA) Tournaments: 1965-1966 Doubles Champion; 1967 High Set Scratch; 1968 High Game Scratch; 1969 All Events Champion; 1970 High Set Scratch, Singles champion and All Events Champion.  SC State Junior Bowling Association Tournament:  1966-1967 Junior-Senior Doubles Champion (1st ever State Tournament); 1971 Junior-Senior Doubles Champion and Team Champion.

 

Bowled 700 on October 1987 in SC Trio Scratch League and 704 in May 1988 in National 600 Tournament in Reno.
