Judy Peloquin

Judy Sottile Peloquin is the youngest daughter of Salvatore and Gertrude Sottile.  Born in Charleston, SC, she has continued to call the Charleston Area home.  She is the mother of four children, two boys and two girls and the grandmother of six, three boys and three girls.

Judy’s Bowling Career began in 1957 at the M & M Bowling Alley, managed by Jayne and Danny Wetmore, who were instrumental in getting her involved in the real understanding of what bowling means.

She has been a member of the Charleston WBA for 43 years.  She is also a member of the Charleston All Star Team.  She was elected to the Charleston WBA Board of Directors in 1968 and was appointed Secretary in 1970, a position she held for three years and then went back on the board as a director.  Judy also held the office of 2nd Vice President and served as President for two years.  Judy has chaired many committees during this time and was chairman when organizing the senior tournament sponsored by the CWBA.  Judy is a certified lane inspector.

Judy became active in the Greater Charleston YABA as her children were all bowlers.  She served as Secretary-Treasurer and as President.  She was also a certified coach.

Judy volunteered at the VA Hospital and earned over 200 hours credited to CWBA.  District Six Special Olympics also held a special place in her heart and she was head of score tabulation both for the local and state competitions for many years.

Judy attended her first state annual meeting in Beaufort; her first national in Atlanta.  She quickly became “hooked” on this aspect of bowling and traveled to many state and national conventions as a delegate in the years to follow.  She was a delegate to WIBC for twelve years.

She has served as a director on the South Carolina Women’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for 12 years.  During this time she served on all of the committees as a member and sometimes as chairperson.  Judy is always ready to do whatever is asked of her.  She has served the state association during many conventions as tellers committee liaison, as she is doing this year and in many other ways.

Her highest average to date – 182; highest game – 279; and highest series – 664!

While Judy enjoys the entire sport of bowling, the most important and precious part has been the lasting friendships developed as a result of being involved in this great game, some which have lasted thirty or more years.

Judy Peloquin is truly deserving of the honor bestowed upon her by the S.C. Women’s Bowling Association and is an asset to her associations and her community.  She is extended a warm welcome to the membership of the SCWBA Hall of Fame.
