Rufus H. Hanna

Rufus moved to the Columbia area in 1966 and was involved in sports much of his life.  He started participating in organized bowling in 1975 and served as league secretary or president.  He was elected Director to the Greater Columbia Bowling Association in 1981.  In 1990, he was elected president and served in this capacity for three years.  He was elected secretary in 1993 and continues serving in this capacity.

In 1992 he was elected a Greater Columbia Bowling Association life member and 1994 to the Greater Columbia Bowling Association Hall of Fame.  rufus has participated in every local tournament since 1978, state tournament since 1980, the Southeast tournament since 1983, the SCSBA Senior tournament since 1986, and the ABC tournament since 1990.

He has served as a delegate to ABC since 1990.  In 1993 he was elected director to the SCSBA where he has served as a delegate, was elected director of the year in 1996 and in 1997 was elected executive director for the SCSBA.

His participation with the Southeast Bowling Association began as a delegate and in 1991 he was elected as a director and continues to serve in that capacity.  Rufus also attended LAOTC training in Greendale, Wisconsin.  He is also a certified lane inspector.

Rufus is an active participant, supporter and promoter of the game of bowling.  he is respected in the bowling community because of his devotion and dedication to the sport.

Rufus Holland Hanna West Columbia Funeral services for Rufus H. Hanna, 87, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Caughman-Harmon Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, officiated by Benjamin Wade Herlong, Sr.  Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29063 or Midlands SCUSBC Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Doris Tompkins, 5 Misty Glen Dr., Irmo, SC 29063.  Mr. Hanna is survived by his wife, Deanna; five children, Fran Lee, Faith Mosier (Jim), Bucky Hanna, Louis Hanna, Marjorie Branham; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Byrd and Marcella Sasser; sister-in-law Romona Meadows (Richard) and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, M.B. Hanna.
