Laura Browne

Laura became interested in bowling in 1959 when she joined a league at Star Lanes, Anderson.

She was one of the first members of the Anderson WBA and helped “get it on it’s feet.”

She has served as president of the Anderson WBA for a total of 10 years, a director for 4 years, and is currently serving as Sergeant-at-Arms.  Even when she is too busy to take on the responsibilities of an officer, she holds a position as director.

Laura has served as secretary of the SCWBA for the past 12 years.  Before that, she held the offices of first vice president, third vice president and director.  She began her career on the SCWBA board of directors in 1967.  Laura has served on all committees, local and state as a member and as chairwoman.

She has found time during her busy career to be a coach for the Juniors, to serve as president of the Anderson Junior Association and to be a Junior Leader Advisor.

Laura is a member emeritus of the Anderson WBA.

Even though Laura has spent most of her time working with the administrative side of bowling, she has a high career game of 247 and a series of 567.  Her highest season average was 161.

She has attended 14 WIBC conventions and tournaments, many at her own expense, others as a delegate from her local association or the state association.

Laura has participated in 19 SCWBA tournaments, alas, winning none!  She also participated in 18 local association tournaments – being all events winner in 1971 and placing several times with winning teams.

Laura has devoted a lot of time and put tremendous effort into carrying out the duties of her office.

A few of her contributions to the members of the SCWBA have been the books delegates receive at the annual meeting, the hostess manuals for associations holding the SCWBA tournament each year.

Laura has used the knowledge she has obtained from serving on the SCWBA board of directors in her local association and others, thus benefitting more SCWBA members.  The knowledge she has gained from attending WIBC conventions and seminars and workshops has been put to good use while serving as SCWBA secretary.

Her dedication to the work for which the membership has elected her to do each year has been unrelenting.

Lest we forget, behind every good woman is a good man and children!  Laura has had the help and support of her family, Bob, Robin and Paul in everything she has undertaken to do.  Laura and Bob have been married for 29 years as of May 12, 1983.  Besides their two children, they have been blessed with a grandson, Jason.  Also, Bob has the distinction of being the only member of the SCWBA auxiliary!  To Laura and Bob, our very best wishes go with you and yours now and always!
