Phyl came from a small town in Arkansas and moved to Cannonsburg, PA while a teenager.  She met and married Bob in 1951.  They have two children; a son, Jeffrey and wife Mary in Marietta, GA with two daughters Amanda and Melissa, and a daughter Lynda and husband Scott in Bear, Delaware with daughter Laura.

 

Phyl and Bob began league bowling in 1960 and remained in the league over the next 20 years.  During that time Phyl served as secretary-treasurer of the league several times.

 

She and Bob moved to Myrtle Beach in 1980 where Phyl became the secretary of a summer league in 1981.  She has continued bowling in several leagues since then and has held office in some of these leagues.

 

Bonnie McDaniel hired Phyl to work at Myrtle Beach Lanes in 1981 and she continued working there and at Waccamaw Lanes until 1990.  Bonnie introduced her to many of the GSWBA board members.

 

In 1984 Phyl was appointed treasurer of the Grand Strand WBA, filling a void created by the passing of Jo Forgason.  In 1986 she was appointed secretary, a position she held until 2001.  Phyl was instrumental in putting the local membership files on computer in 1988 and began using the new Winlabs program when it first became available.  Working with Barbara Mosback and Thelma Regg, Grand Strand became the first association in the state to receive the first star in the four star award campaign and later became the first association to receive the four star award.

 

Phyl has served as a delegate for the Grand Strand WBA to the state and national conventions.  She served on the SCWBA Tellers Committee and chaired the SCWBA Nominations Committee two years.  In 1993, Phyl was elected director to the SCWBA and served two years.

 

An active bowler in all respects, Phyl’s highest average is 162….highest game is 255 and highest series is 602.
