Gail Beaty

Linda Gail Reid Beaty was born and raised to Ben and Mildred Reid in Anderson, South Carolina on August 4, 1941.  She is married to Daniel H. Beaty and they have one son, Dana Benjamin.  Residing in Walhalla, South Carolina she works as the secretary of the plant manager for Amoco Fabrics and Fiber Company where she has been employed for the past 28 years.

Gail was a member and served as an officer of the Walhalla Razorback Athletic Booster Club.  She is now involved in the Walhalla Rake ‘n Hoe Garden and Civic Club.  She has served on the March of Dimes Charity Drive where she works.

Gail started her bowling career in Anderson in September 1964.  While bowling in Anderson she served as a director on their board.  In November 1968 she moved to Greenville but continued to bowl in Anderson.  Gail considers herself an average bowler, starting out with an 89 average in 1964 and working her way up to 153.  Her highest game is a 245 and highest series is 569.

In 1969 she moved to Seneca but didn’t break away from Anderson until later to start her bowling career in Seneca.  She served as League President, Vice President and Secretary over a period of several years.  Gail served as Vice President of Seneca WBA for one year and became Secretary/Treasurer when they changed their name to Oconee County WBA where she served for 19 years.  She served on all the committees in her 28 years in Seneca/Oconee County.  Her time was not all devoted to adult bowlers, as Gail was a coach, director and secretary of the Oconee County YABA for nine years.  Oconee County WBA has honored Gail with the President’s Award three times for her dedication and service to leagues and the association.

Gail was appointed to the State Board in 1971 by Mitzi Herold, serving as a director for 2 1/2 years.  In 1984 she started her service on the state board again where she continues as a director.  She has served as a member and chairman of all committees.  She contributes a lot of behind the scenes support to the state secretary, working in pre-tournament preparations, assembling the delegates manual and many other office duties.  Gail has been the editor for the State Newsletter for the past three years.  Her participation in SCWBA Tournment activity is much in evidence as she has bowled in 28 of them.  She has served as delegate to SCYABA for 2 years.  Gail has represented the state at the SCWBA Conventionfor 23 years, of which she has missed only two meetings during that time.

Gail is well respected by her peers at Oconee County WBA for her great leadership qualities and many new ideas.  Her commitment to our association has always been professional and dedicated.

We proudly welcome you to the South Carolina Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
