Ray has served youth bowling in Charleston for over 29 years by holding the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Youth Leader Advisor. He has been the Tournament Director for the Association Championship tournament and initiated the Travel League and Roll-offs between the Military Bowling Centers in Charleston. Ray has been certified as an AJBC and YABA coach which he applies to his “seniors” leagues. The Charleston YABA has benefited from Ray’s expertise a few times when the records were in jeopardy. Ray is also a Life Member of the Greater Charleston Bowling Association having served as President, Vice President and on various committees. The seniors are keeping Ray busy now as league secretary/treasurer.
Ray is Co-advisor of the Youth Leaders with Dorothy Collins (his “Mom”) which keeps them on the road with the Timothy Spencer Rice (TSR) Tournaments. He also helps at the state Coca-Cola Youth Bowling Championships each year.
Ray and his wife, Mildred, reside in North Charleston and are the proud parents of three sons: Raymond (42), Byron (31) and John (30). They have four grandchildren: Byron, Jr. (8), Kelsey (5), Clark (3) and Michaela (1). Ray is also active in his church where he serves on the Senior Council and the XYZ (Xtra Years of Zest) group. He helps to plan tours, get-togethers, trips and other activities for these special seniors.
