J C Williamson

J.C. Williamson, has dedicated a major portion of his life to the game of bowling.  He began involvement in bowling as a pin boy at Lanier’s Columbia Bowling Center in 1950.  In 1958 he began bowling while in the military averaging 167 with a backup ball.  He began hooking the ball in 1961.  He bowled in Spain in 1961 averaging 190 in all leagues.  He earned a spot in the Spanish Morocco Tournament.  He finished first in doubles and third in all events.  This earned him a trip to the USAFE Tournament in France representing the best bowlers in Europe.

 

In 1962 he returned to Columbia where he averaged 190 or higher until 1965 when he averaged 200+.  From 1962 to 1965 he was captain of the Columbia All-Star Team.

 

He was president of the Greater Columbia Bowling Association from 1966 to 1975.  He has been a member of the Greater Columbia Board from 1960 to the present.

 

In 1976 he was elected to the S.C. State Bowling Association Board, however, he had to resign due to a new job with Major League Lanes.  He was responsible for building a new center and managing it.

 

J.C. has a lifetime average of 190.  He has bowled nine 700 series, high game 289.  He was once nominated for PBA Rookie of The Year.

 

J.C. is a credit to the game and was inducted for his bowling achievements as well as his promotion and support of the sport.  He is a credit to our Hall of Fame.
